A Night of Inspiration with Tree Aid

In July, I had the extraordinary opportunity to attend Tree Aid’s launch of their new film, “A Glimpse Into Ghana.” The evening was a powerful reminder of the urgent need to address the environmental crisis and its impact on communities.

As Adjoa Andoh poignantly stated, “We live in a house where one floor is burning. The fire will affect us all. We should address the fire and help those on the burning floor.” Her words set the tone for an evening of reflection and inspiration. Tree Aid’s work, as showcased in the film, is a beacon of hope in this challenging landscape.

I was particularly struck by the warmth and dedication of the Tree Aid team, exemplified by their CEO, Tom Skirrow. His unwavering commitment to ensuring that the organisation’s expertise, local knowledge, and resources are effectively applied to create sustainable improvements is truly inspiring.

As Sean McGough, Tree Aid’s Head of Program Management, shared, the organisation has planted over nineteen million trees across Africa in just ten years, achieving an impressive 72% success rate. This is a testament to their dedication and expertise. Their project in Metema Province, Ethiopia, restoring Boswellia papyrifera woodlands for frankincense production, is particularly close to our hearts at Treework Environmental Practice.

Throughout the evening, the importance of mutual learning and respect was a recurring theme. This commitment, evident in every interaction, is a cornerstone of Tree Aid’s success. As Paul Barton of Barton Hyett Associates Ltd, a long-time supporter of Tree Aid, noted, the organisation genuinely embodies these values and applies them to create lasting positive change.

Tree Aid is undoubtedly tackling the “blaze” that Adjoa Andoh referred to. Their work is a testament to the power of human spirit and the potential for a sustainable future.
