GIS / CAD Technician – Maternity Cover

We are looking for a skilled and motivated GIS Technician (ideally with CAD experience) to provide maternity cover while one of our team nurtures a member of the next generation of digital practitioners as they enter the world.

Applicants without AutoCAD experience will be considered and, if successful will receive training in how to complete the core AutoCAD tasks required by the role.

Your work would include working with all members of the Treework team using GIS software and AutoCAD to support project setup and delivery.

Knowledge/Skills

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience in QGIS (preferable) or other GIS software
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience of working with Office 365 suite

Desirable Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience in AutoCAD
  • Knowledge and experience in database software
  • Project management
  • Experience with scripting and process automation (Python or Modelbuilder)
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Ordnance Survey Mapping
  • Experience of quality management of work outputs
  • Experience in 3D modelling (Vectorworks or Revit)
  • IT support experience
  • Online research

Competence:

  • Have excellent attention to detail
  • Be able to understand a written or verbal brief and plan and deliver to it
  • Have a desire and ability to solve problems and improve outcomes
  • Trustworthy, open and honest with clear communication skills
  • Working from home and remotely, you should be organised
  • Able to demonstrate excellent self-management
  • Good at working collaboratively in a team and also able to work alone, self-motivated
  • Have a desire to develop and learn

Salary: £33,500 per annum

The Role

You will work collaboratively within our team of consultants, spending time with them in the field and at the desk, on projects involving trees in relation to planning and development (BS 5837), tree risk surveys, tree population management, contract administration and veteran tree surveys.

You will develop as an arboricultural professional, supported by a dedicated mentor as well as our team of colleagues who include some of the leading arboriculturists in the UK.

In our ‘Setting You Up to Succeed’ program, we will set clear development goals on your pathway to professionalism, produce your Development Plan with you and provide you with opportunities to deepen your arboricultural knowledge, learning both externally (e.g. attending courses and seminars) and internally from our UK leading experts, and also gaining knowledge on additional subjects including Tree Statics, Pricing and Quoting, Soils, GIS, AutoCAD, Professional Conduct, and other useful skills for your career in arboriculture.

The Candidate

You will need to have an Arboricultural Degree at the following levels:

  • FdSc: Merit or Distinction
  • BSc (Hons): 2:1 or 1st
  • MSc: Merit or Distinction

You will need to be self-motivated and have a well-structured approach to your work and time management. You will need to be inquisitive, committed, and enthusiastic to develop your arboricultural knowledge and professionalism.

You will need to be able to work independently and in a team.

You will need a driving license and a vehicle and be able to travel within the UK with overnight stays as required.

You must be eligible to work in the UK.

Salary Band: £26,000 per annum

Benefits include bonus scheme, 26 days annual leave, company sick pay, pension, home working, and excellent career development.

All work expenses are paid, including travel, vehicle mileage, subsistence, accommodation when staying away, and homeworking allowance.

Location: We are currently looking for consultants based within an hour of central London, by public transport or based within an hour of Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council by car. You will need to be aware of current developments in arboricultural knowledge and practice, and in allied sectors. You will have or be ready to develop specialist technical knowledge in specific areas, such as expert knowledge of relevant case law, legislation and standards. Expert witness experience is desirable. Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters, Arboricultural Association or another relevant professional body is desirable.

Salary Band: c. £42,000 – £53,000 per annum, dependent on experience, plus bonus scheme and great benefits including 26 days annual leave, company sick pay, flexible working, support of professional membership and excellent career development.
