Can arboriculture help tackle homelessness?

We are not unusual in Treework in wanting our work to help to shape a better society.

One of the deepest challenges that we face as a society is homelessness, but it is difficult, for a company working in the environmental sector to see a path to providing effective help towards addressing homelessness.

So we were excited when we discovered Hill Group’s Foundation 200 initiative (see more details in the comments).

The whole Treework Team were enthusiastic to support Foundation 200, and the opportunity arose to provide expert arboricultural input in support of a planning application in Redbridge, we jumped at the chance.

Our offer to Hill Group’s Foundation 200: All arboricultural services to support the planning application, free of charge.

The scheme was submitted by Hill Partnerships Ltd on behalf of the Treasures Foundation, was for 6 Modular Homes on land owned by the London Borough of Newham and within the administrative boundary of London Borough of Redbridge.

On 28^th November, a few days before Homelessness Awareness Week, the scheme received approval.

Our Director Luke Fay said: “It is important that we live our values. When any of us experience a crisis in our lives, our home becomes the foundation on which we can rebuild. Without a home that foundation is gone. Andy Hill and Hill Group’s commitment to drawing on the skills and resources of their construction company to make a tangible difference to people who dealing with homelessness is visionary, they are living their values, and it has been wonderful to have been able to contribute.”

We are grateful to the team at Hill Group for their commitment to tackling homelessness and for giving us the opportunity to make a tangible difference to UK homelessness. And we are grateful to our Team for the enthusiasm that everyone has brought to this work.
