Meet our newest members of the team

2024 has been an exciting year for Treework Environmental Practice! Our team has grown significantly, welcoming four new talented members. We sat down with them to learn about what drew them to Treework and what they’re most excited about. Here’s what they had to say.

Nick Ball – Arboricultural Surveyor

What are you most excited about learning or accomplishing in this role?

“My appreciation of trees and nature have led me into this career and I’m excited about working as a part of a dedicated, highly professional team of like-minded individuals. I would like to accomplish the Level 4 Diploma in Arboriculture.  I will be studying this year and I’ll no doubt be reaching out to the team for guidance.”

What challenges do you anticipate facing in this role, and how do you plan to overcome them?

“Although I’ve worked with trees for over a decade this is my first job working for an Arboricultural Consultancy, so I envisage plenty of challenges.  Treework have set me up to overcome these challenges by assigning me a mentor who is always at the end of the phone and willing to help me with any questions.  They are also well placed to point to other team members who may be better qualified to answer my queries.”

Philippa Lavers – Office Coordinator

What do you envision your typical day looking like in this role?

“The great thing about my day is that it’s rarely typical! My tasks flex around the needs of the company, to provide support where it is needed, and these vary day to day. There are general administrative tasks that run behind the scenes, which vary from ordering equipment, preparing documents, submitting compliance requests and general planning/organising.”

Is there anything different you have had to do compared to previous roles and if so, how have you adapted? 

“Having worked for myself for many years prior to being with Treework, I have to emphasise again the team aspect. It’s all new to me, but I really enjoy being part of something. And it’s a very welcoming place to be.”

Ben Watkins – Arboricultural Consultant

What are you most excited about learning or accomplishing in this role?

“For me I am seeking to consolidate my skills as an arb consultant and to really learn the craft of consulting. Secondly to that, I would like to experience greater variety in my role and start to understand more about ancient and veteran tree management.”

What do you envision your typical day looking like in this role?

“A typical depends whether I’m on site or working from home. If I’m on site I would have completed a set RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statement) and then jumping in the car to get to site (or utilising public transport, if practicable). My time on site may include a signing in and induction process, but often the client is aware of my arrival and I’m able to access the site independently. I will proceed to walk through the site and survey all arboricultural features depending on the project requirements (risk, planning and development, ancient and veteran tree management).

Working from home entails coffee at my standing desk and writing reports, reviewing plans and data, client meetings and team meetings, as well as the usual office admin.”

Howard Booth – Principal Arboricultural Consultant

What do you envision your typical day looking like in this role?

“No two days are the same in arboricultural consultancy. I enjoy the variety of work, from supporting developers on major construction projects to helping homeowners care for their beloved trees.”

Is there anything different you have had to do compared to previous roles and if so, how have you adapted?

“I’ve worked in various roles and with different teams, so I’m used to adapting to new environments. Having led large teams previously, it will be pleasant change focusing on project work and trees.”
